Fees: 1 hour £125, 2 hours = £200, 3 hours = £250

"Talk-backs" (15 mins) can be scheduled after one performance per week. (No Fee)

Guy Masterson - Biography

Guy Masterson's Introduction to Physical Theatre (Maximum # participants 25)

A one two or three hour workshop designed to introduce younger or elementary drama trained students to the possibilies of physical theatre. It will encourage a confidence to use the body as an expressive tool of communication and to open the mind to a means of communication other than vocal.

The workshop will consist or some or all of the following:

  • A strenuous physical warm up
  • A deep relaxation designed to empty the mind of everyday thoughts
  • Basic theories of theatrical communication
  • A series of practical excercises and demonstrations where the student is encouraged to use the body as much as the voice to communicate
  • The development of a "performance" of a three syllable word in a physical, vocal and present way.
  • Presentation of the "performance" to one's peers demonstrating new found confidence in physicality.

Guy Masterson's Advanced Physical Theatre Workshops
(Minimum time 2 hours - Maximum # participants 15)

As above but for more advanced performers or drama students 16-18 years and up.

  • Some or all of the above but including:
  • More advanced introduction and/or discussion of modern theatrical practice
  • Presence, confidence and trust exercises
  • More complex physical experimentation
  • More stringent rehearsal and performance of word or phrase in a performance environment.
  • Improvement of performance through constructive criticism.

The workshop will consist or some or all of the following:

  • A strenuous physical warm up

  • Brief discussion of basic theories of theatrical communication
  • A series of practical excercises, mime techniques and demonstrations where the student is encouraged to use the body as much as the voice to communicate
  • The development of a personal story in a physical, vocal and present way.
  • Presentation of the story to one's peers demonstrating new found confidence in mime and direct communication.

As above but for more advanced performers or drama students 16-18 years and up.

Gary Shelford - Workshops

Gary graduated from LAMDA in 2001. Since graduating worked regularly at the National Theatre including No Man's Land written and directed by Harold Pinter and Market Boy directed by Rufus Norris. He worked with Simon Callow on Shades at the Albery and, most recently, with Ben Woolf on Angry Young Man which was a hit of the Edinburgh 05 and Adelaide 06 Fringe Festivals. Film and televisual work includes Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Eastenders and My Family. In 2001 he became All England Tap Dancing Champion - which holds him in great stead to play the part of Squealer in Animal Farm!

Gary Shelford's ANIMAL FARM workshop

A workshop for drama students studying the text of Animal Farm

  • A strenuous physical warm up
  • A brief warm down
  • Vocal warm up
  • Brief discussion of basic elements of the story
  • Division of the class into Main Characters and Animal Groups.
  • Developement of physical and vocal characteristics of the animal groups and characters.
  • Interaction of animal groups taking recreating several key scenes from the book.
  • Demonstration of the same scenes when played by one actor.
  • Talk down and summary.
